Summary
The Field Engineer position will be responsible for assisting the Project Manager on Civil Construction activities. Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for compliance with federal, state, and local codes;
- Observes and ensures construction practices as required for compliance with federal, state, and local codes; industry standards; company procedures; contractual requirements; etc.
- Assists the Project Manager with required documents and information to support the successful completion of construction activities
- Serves as resource for project specifications, procedures, relevant portions of contract, etc.
- Attends construction project meetings and safety meetings as assigned
- Ensures that construction requirements are made known to the project team in a timely manner and obtains construction responses to the needs of other members of the project team.
- Develops and applies construction procedures which may be unique and innovative in nature to resolve complex problems on site.
- Supports the scope development and execution planning for civil/structural packages and heavy involvement in the mobilization of sub-contractors.
- Assisting in the oversight of civil/structural site work and providing input to and support of the project schedule development,
- Prepares reports and forecasts for the quality and quantity tracking as required for civil/structural work.
- Problem resolution and inspection of field installations.
- Performs inspections and reviews documentation of all structural work in progress on a continuing basis.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to legally work in the United States.
- Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.
- Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.
- Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and specialty bridge design software; must be proficient with MS Office.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively plan and organize to meet project deadlines.
Education and/or Experience
B.S. in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 1 to 5 years of bridge, marine, structures, and/or Civil experience
- Field/construction engineering experience is preferred
- Practical construction experience with heavy civil works is preferred
- Strong knowledge of applicable design codes and standards is essential.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups like managers, clients, suppliers, sub tier contractors, craft workers, manufacturers, and design engineers, amongst others.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts related to structural engineering and related calculations. Individual should some level of business acumen, including knowledge of operating expenses, profit, etc. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word-Processing software, reporting tools related to databases. Must have the ability to learn construction related software programs including but not limited to: CAD, P6 Scheduling, Procore (for doc control)

Current driver's license.

Outdoor work environment. Cold, wet, dry, ice, heat conditions. Lighting conditions will change depending upon time of day. Exposed to various hazards such as overhead steel, cable, noise, dust, etc.
