Summary

This position is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and improving the project controls functions for projects across the entire Business Unit from a corporate support perspective. The project control’s function will assist projects in adhering to corporate processes, and reporting metrics in the areas of cost/budget, schedule, risk, commercial administration, and document control. This position is for a person with a proven track record in project controls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance for project control functions to on-site staff necessary to proactively manage projects to a successful completion.
  • Possesses proven knowledge of transportation and heavy civil scopes of work and associated project delivery methods.
  • Analyze variances in cost and schedule performance against the plan, and coordinates with the project team to determine the causes of variance and propose mitigation plans to upper management.
  • Support projects in creating detailed cost forecasts.
  • Ensure projects are following company procedures for document control.
  • Assist project teams in the implementation of the change management process on the project, including tracking and reporting of change events.
  • Accountable for the preparation and completion of internal and third-party audits.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of process and controls.
  • Represent the company in internal and external meetings, trainings, presentations, and other settings.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Field based experience that has led to a strong financial business acumen.
  • Ability to conduct complex quantitative analyses and translate them into actionable summaries and conclusions.
  • Coordination ability to guide the transition from estimating to operations to following successive pursuits.
  • Possession of excellent verbal skills in one-on-one, small group, and large group forums along with effective technical writing skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, and ERP cost management systems. Experience with Oracle JDE or Viewpoint a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to jobsites to participate in project status updates and audits. Expected travel 10-15% but may vary with project needs.
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Must be willing to work in a drug-free environment and agree to a post offer drug test.
  • Must be willing to work safely and keep OSHA recordable incidents to a minimum.

 

Education and/or Experience     

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a work-related equivalent.

  • A minimum of five to ten years’ experience with project controls, cost, scheduling, budget analysis, contract administration, change management, estimating and document control.
  • Applicable field experience in the engineering, procurement, construction and closeout of transportation or heavy civil specific projects strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of P6 Scheduling software is required.
  • Experience with an ERP cost system preferred.
  • A professional accreditation in project controls, construction, or project management preferred.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
