Summary

Responsible for the execution of the EHS program this includes identifying job tasks, associate hazards, and implementing mitigation and/or elimination controls. Conduct safety meetings and training as required. Monitor active work for unsafe acts and/or conditions. Assist employees and workers in developing hazard identification skills.  Assist with incident investigations and reporting, including near misses.  Assist with case management and return to work programs. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of construction safety experience and have OSHA 30, 1st Aid/CPR/AED training, and various other safety training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide communication, training, and enforcement of EHS policies to workers and employees.
  • Make recommendations for EHS requirement improvements.
  • Conduct job/daily hazard analysis to identify hazards, potential risks, and implement the necessary controls.
  • Perform workplace safety audits and ensure remedial action where necessary.
  • Continuously monitor work activities to ensure compliance with all AB and regulatory Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Interpret and apply applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support and maintain site-specific safety programs which includes emergency response and security plans.
  • Provide safety indoctrination to all construction site visitors, employees, and workers.
  • Perform safety training as necessary.

  • Possess knowledge of fall protections systems, the control of hazardous materials, electrical safety, confined spaces, excavation trenching and shoring, crane and rigging, scaffolding, demolition safety, incident prevention, investigation, and reporting.     

Education and/or Experience     

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years of construction safety experience.
  • A current “Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP)” certification is preferred.

May be responsible for the supervision of other Health and Safety Representatives

Current driver's license

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to create and effectively present information. Ability to communicate with employees, workers, management, clients, and members of regulatory agencies.

Mathematical Skills        

Ability to analyze exposure rates such as time weighted average and permissible exposure limits. Ability to measure distances, height, and weights.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where limited information exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Knowledge or ability to learn safety system, reporting and remote collaboration software. Also, must be proficient with MS Office.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The primary work environment is outdoor and the noise level is usually moderate (w/in PEL).
